‘Gasland’ director arrested on Capitol Hill

>>> exposing the ugly side of natural gas drilling says hae's been blacklisted. josh fox was arrested without trying to enter a house hearing without the proper credentials. instead of letting him in, capitol hill police hauled him off in cuffs.

>> this is a public hearing . i'm within my first amendment rights and i'm being taken out.

>> thank you.

>> you said you've been going nonstop since the arrest. did you have the proper credentials?

>> yes, we have the bill of rights . congress shall make no law that infringes upon freedom of press.

>> isn't there protocol?

>> yes. we went through the proper channels to appeal to the chair of committee. we talked with their staff. they said we're going to get back to you. this was tuesday night at 8:30.

>> i get the impression you thought they were trying to stall you any way?

>> i got the insere impression they were trying to be obstructive. this is where we had to weigh our options, are we going in no matter what or allow them to bully us out of these sessions? this has happened before . the democrats had no problem letting us in to tape all sorts of hearings. since the house changed, we've had a lot of flak trying to get in the door and been backed off. this is a very personal issue.

>> when you were in the hearing, what did you hope to capture? i know you're working on a sequel to your explosionive, no pun intended, the drinking water coming from the faucet in people's homes, lights up on fire due to the drilling practices with natural gas . it is stunning saddening, and sickening to watch this. you were working on a sequel. what did you hope to capture on tape?

>> this was the republicans holding a hearing with the panel full of gas lobbyists on the science and technology committee to attack a three and a half year epa investigation, which we have been following very closely. the residents are featured. we have been following their story in gasland two. ep said fraking is likely the cause. they were forging an take on the science within the science committee.

>> they were fundamentally attacking science here. this is not opinion, this is not theory. this is science.

>> it's in their opening. it was a meticulous three and a half year statement. they opened, as i was told, i was in jail. an attack on the epa . you have an investigator looking at the truth on the stand, epa being attacked and the journalist trying to report being hauled away in handcuffs. this is a brazen attack on civil liberty , science and freedom of the press and the families that have come forward and petitioned for the epa to come in and examine ground water contamination. it's clear what happened here. it's also very clear the shortsightedness of this approach. this has backfired on them just as the campaign for fraking has backfired. it contaminates ground water . you have a short term effect. throw this guy in jail. we see a long term effect of re repercussions.
