The Scoop: Tiger's troubles

>>> let's go to the latest on tiger woods and reports of a deal in the scandal surrounding the golf star. tiger has not talked to the media since his early morning car crash morning a week ago outside his florida home but earlier this week did issue a statement on his website apologizing for, quote, transgressions. joining me live now msnbc.com pop culture columnist courtney hazel who has the scoop. with a good morning to you again, before we get to the reported deal, there are new reports about the prenup agreement being reworked.

>> it certainly is. of course tiger woods has a prenup agreement. a lot of people at the very beginning thought maybe he doesn't. paul mccartney and heather mills did not have one and it was a big mistake on paul mccartney 's part. not the case with tiger woods . right now his wife elin woods will get an immediate $5 million payout into a personal account of her own and originally the prenup we're told stipulated they needed to stay together for ten years before she got another large lump sum. that date is now changed to seven years and the payout for that is $55 million, alex.

>> okay.

>> this is a guy worth almost a billion dollars don't forget. so when you hear these numbers it sounds like a lot but this is still a very, very big machine here.

>> i have a friend who described it as kind of finding the seat cushions on the couch there. what about the deal allegedly between tiger and another woman, rachel?

>> this is the person who at first in the new york post denied there was any sort of relationship between her and teicher woods and now she hasn't totally recanted that statement. she did hire gloria allred who was supposed to have a press conference where we thought we'd learn about what was really going on because sources tell me that rachel and tiger had a long standing relationship. he was most likely supporting her in some way financially prior to the original " national enquirer " piece that set this all in motion prior to the car crash and she has gotten probably into the multiple millions of dollars to keep quiet because she also knows about the other women, too. we woke up to reports of possibly a fourth woman who has hired an attorney in the orlando area . that comes as no surprise, alex. by my count if i counted every single phone call i got this week saying i think i know about this girl and another girl and another girl, we're well over a dozen.

>> so, then, in terms of the story dying down?

>> not so much. i think it's here to stay. i know a lot of people are saying if i have to hear this again it's because i'm physically unable to change the channel.

>> however, tiger can remain quiet and should say as little as possible. truthfully he doesn't owe the public that much of an explanation about his personal life . he owes that to his family. however, the more people there are, it's really hard to plug a leak when you've got them springing up left and right. that's what we're dealing with here. and should he go back out on the course, now i've been beating this like a dead horse i know, he needs to get on the course and play good golf and then people remember the magic that is tiger woods . he is a magical golfer and it's amazing. fantastic to watch him. if he goes out and plays poor golf everyone will blame this and if that happens six months from now, a year from now, it's going to dredge this all up again.
