Santorum rallied base at conservative conference

>> i think with the same message that you used last week. the demographics look good for him in michigan . a lot of conservatives that are with his message. what he is trying do is unite conservatives around his candidacy, much like newt gingrich tried to do unsuccessfully the previous month. saying i'm the alternative. the conservative alternative mitt romney .
>> is it risky to discount newt gingrich and ron paul ? i mean, he can try to frame this as a two-man race, but as long as they are in the race, he does not have a clear shot.
>> there's a risk and all four will probably stick around for a while which works to romney 's favor, because conservatives are not that happy with mitt romney but they have not found an alternative that they are all willing to rally around, so rick n santorum has to say, please get out, please get out to newt gingrich . and neither of them is getting out, because everyone thinks it's a long process that is win winnable for any of of the four.

>> well the past is usually a good indicator of how people will perform in the future. romney goes negative when he is in trouble. often through the super pac that is affiliated with his campaign and they try to tear down the opponent. did it effectively against newt gingrich in iowa and again effectively against him in florida. can they take that same tactic and tear town rick santorum . whose favorable ratings are pretty good in polls. but is there as much material to work with. with santorum , there's material but i don't think that as powerful of material for the romney ad makers to work with as gingrich.
